SAC dismisses U Myint Swe as Chairman of the Kokang Self-Administered Zone Administration Body

U Myint Swe, Chairman of Kokang Self-Administered Zone Administration Body was dismissed and Brigadier General Tun Tun Myint was appointed as acting chairman of Kokang Self-Administered Zone Administration Body, announced the State Administration Council (SAC) on November 15.

According to Article 419 of the Constitution, the SAC has issued an order that the Chairman of Kokang Self-Administered Zone Administration Body, U Myint Swe, has been terminated from his duties, and Brigadier General Tun Tun Myint has been appointed as the acting chairman of Kokang Self-Administered Zone Administration Body.

In addition, the SAC has entrusted martial law power related to administration and judicial measures to the Commander of Laukkai Regional Command under Section 419 of the Constitution to exercise more effective undertakings for ensuring security, the rule of law and local peace and tranquility in Laukkai and Konegyan townships in Shan State.

It has been announced that the regional commander themselves can exercise martial law power as well as transfer the power to military region commanders depending on the timely changing of situations.

According to the orders, local administration bodies in the areas which have been placed under the martial law shall carry out the tasks concerned with them under the command of the regional commander. The regional commander shall designate the martial law areas in the region, and with the martial law orders, they can appoint commanders for the martial law areas with the approval of the Chairman of the State Administration Council, it said.
