SAC chair visits Dawei SEZ and deep-sea port project sites to push for continued implementation

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on November 4 morning inspected the Dawei Special Economic Zone and the site chosen for the deep-sea port project in Nabulei, 17 miles northwest of Dawei in Taninthayi Region.

At the project briefing hall, the Senior General heard reports by Union Minister for Commerce U Aung Naing Oo and Chairman of Dawei SEZ Management Committee U Aung Soe on the implementation of the zone, progress delays in implementing the SEZ project for various reasons, progress in construction of jetties, factories and buildings in the project area, requirements for further implementation and future plans.

After hearing the reports, the Senior General explained that the Dawei SEZ project was beneficial to the State as well as contributing to the international community. He then called for successful implementation of the project as commodities can be transported from the port of Viet Nam to Dawei deep-sea port via East Asian countries and then to South Asia and the Gulf as well as the commodities from western countries to Thailand, Cambodia and Viet Nam and then East Asia via the Dawei deep-sea port. He also stressed the need to maintain and prevent the project facilities from damage and for their long-term existence.

The SAC chairman then exchanged views with the union ministers and senior military officers on possible requirements in implementing the project, viewed a project layout plan and left necessary instructions.

The Senior General and party visited the sites chosen for the Dawei SEZ and the deep-sea port project and gave necessary instructions.

In meeting with MSME owners in Dawei District on the same day, the SAC chair said measures were being taken to resume the Dawei SEZ project that halted for various reasons.
