SAC chair pledges to maintain peace talks as long as three main national causes and multi-party democracy remain unharmed

Chairman of the State Administration Council Senior General Min Aung Hlaing separately met Kayin ethnic leader Saw Mutu Sae Poe (ex-chairman of the Karen National Union), Chairman of the Restoration Council of Shan State General Yawd Serk and representatives of ethnic armed organizations, who attended the 8th Anniversary of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) held in Nay Pyi Taw on October 15, at Bayintnaung Village yesterday.  

In the meeting between the SAC chairman and Saw Mutu Sae Poe, discussions were centred on the success of the eighth anniversary of NCA, the need to lead the peace-loving Kayin people as their leader for restoring peace in Kayin State, endeavours for social, economic, health and regional development of Kayin people in the state, education promotion undertakings for ethnic peoples, and collective efforts for peace and stability of Kayin State.

The meeting with RCSS chairman General Yawd Serk discussed the need to hold talks for regional and national stability, steps firmly taken by the government and the Tatmadaw (military) on the path of the NCA, measures taken for strengthening the multi-party democracy system, conducting a pilot population census this year and preparations to hold an election after conducting a population census in the entire country in the upcoming year and the need to move forward along the path of the NCA for the stability of the country.

In with the representatives of the EAOs, the SAC chairman explained the signing of the NCA, plans of the Tatmadaw to continue talks as long as Our Three Main National Causes and the multiparty democratic system remain unharmed, the discharging of the State responsibilities by the Tatmadaw under the Constitution (2008) following voting frauds in the 2020 multiparty general election, continued implementation of the NCA by the State and the Tatmadaw, the implementation of two national visions such as prosperity of the State and food security and two political visions such as strengthening the disciplined multiparty democratic system and building the Union based on democratic and federal systems by the SAC, the needs for all stakeholders with the same wills for modernizing the country, participation of all for ensuring peace and stability of the nation and region-wise tranquility, and the forging of the internal peace process by the Tatmadaw with patience and tolerance.

The representatives of EAOs expressed thanks for holding the 8th Anniversary of the NCA on a grand scale, and discussed the firmness and existence of NCA without nullification although some organizations issued statements on its nullification, firm realization of the NCA, suggestions for future process to restore the internal peace, and the situations for organizing the NCA non-signatories to join the accord.

The EAOs that called on the Senior General were KNU/KNLA (PC), Arakan Liberation Party (APL), Lahu Democratic Union, KKO, Pa-O National Liberation Organization Mon State Party, and All Burma Students’ Democratic Front.
