Rice prices have increased by an average of 5,000 kyats per bag, and by 200 kyats per basket, according to rice dealers.

Not only the price of good quality rice has increased, but also the prices of raw rice have started to rise since about a week ago, according to rice dealers.

"More than a week ago, the price of good quality rice started going up. At that time, the price has increased by an average of 2,000 kyats per bag. Now, it has reached an average of 5,000 kyats per bag. It's about 200 kyats per basket," said U Aung Soe from Shwe Hingtha rice shop.

In the domestic market, the best type of Shwe Bo Paw Hsan rice, which can be defined as high-quality rice, is currently 76,800 kyats per bag. The price of ordinary Shwe Bo Paw Hsan rice is 72,000 kyats per bag and Pathein Paw Hsan rice is 62,400 kyats per bag.

A bag of Taung Pyan rice, which can be said to be middle-class, costs more than 60,000 kyats and the price of Shwe Bo Magyan Taw rice and Kyar Pyan Hmwe rice are about 60,000 kyats per bag.

A bag of Zeeya, which is a type of low-quality rice, is over 30,000 kyats and the price of Sin Thwe and Yet Ko Se rice are 43,000 kyats and 4,3200 kyats per bag respectively.

Previously, the price of Zeeya, Sin Thwe and Yet Ko Se rice, which are low-quality rice, were over 25,000 kyats, over 38,000 kyats and over 38,200 kyats per bag respectively.

"Nowadays, we sold a lot of good-quality and low-quality rice. The business is good," U Aung Soe said.

Previously, the price of Shwe Bo Paw Hsan, ordinary Shwe Bo Paw Hsan and Pathein Paw Hsan rice were over 72,000 kyats, over 67,000 kyats and over 57,400 kyats per bag respectively.

Similarly, the prices of cooking oil are rising due to the production costs and cost of raw materials, according to cooking oil dealers.
