Restrictions on frozen meats and consumer goods at Sin Phyu Gate in Muse Township
Published 3 December 2024

Starting December 1, authorities at the Sin Phyu checkpoint in Muse Township have prohibited the transportation of frozen meats and general consumer goods, permitting only kitchen-use produce, fresh meat, and fish for local consumption. This decision was confirmed through official announcements and statements from local residents.

“Only items necessary for food consumption within the township are allowed,” said a local resident.

Guidelines issued for the checkpoint specify that vehicles and motorcycles transporting goods must carry permits and are restricted to kitchen-use produce, fresh meat, and fish. Overloading is prohibited, with vehicles allowed to carry only one load in the front and one in the back. Additionally, private cars, bicycles, and handcarts are strictly barred from transporting goods.

The transportation of goods from the Chinese side to Myanmar via Sin Phyu Gate resumed on November 19, following a temporary closure by China from November 11.

Sin Phyu Gate is one of three main border checkpoints in the area, alongside Man Wein and Nantaw gates.

Sin Phyu Gate primarily handles trade for most goods between the two countries, Man Wein Gate allows cargo trucks carrying larger shipments and Nantaw checkpoint permits the movement of individuals across the border.

These checkpoints connect Myanmar with China’s Jie Gao Township, facilitating cross-border trade despite current restrictions.
