SITTWE-As there are over 10,000 Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Mrauk-U Township, Rakhine State, an MP urged the Rakhine State Government Committee to build temporary camps urgently.

Although the Rakhine State Government Committee said the Parliament that they would build temporary camps for IDPs, it did not occur. We would like to urge the state government to implement the construction of temporary camps’ project. There are over 10,000 IDPs in Mrauk-U Township and they are facing food shortages. Moreover, the students have a hard time continuing their education,” said MP Tun Thar Sein.

Likewise, some farmers worried themselves farming tasks and some IDPs didn’t want to return home as they were afraid of heavy weapons which fell down in the villages.

“Some IDPs are now sheltering in Monasteries and while some have built huts. Most accommodations are inconvenient for IDPs. We heard that a hall would be built but no one has found it yet,” said Aung Naing from IDP camp.

In Rakhine State, there are five townships where there have been many IDPs but they already face difficulties with various sectors.
