Protests staged in Yangon, Mandalay to mark July 7 uprising

The cities of Yangon and Mandalay saw quick protests on July 7 morning in commemoration of the 59th anniversary of the July 7 uprising, said local sources.

Under the leadership of the All Burma Federation of Student Unions known as Ba-Ka-Tha, members of various organizations and youths staged a protest in Yangon by walking in the city center area at about 8.30 am yesterday.

The demonstrators marched in protest holding placards reading words related to the July 7 uprising and expressing their sentiments. Police reportedly arrived soon after they dispersed.

Similar protests took place in Thingangyun and Insein townships of Yangon yesterday to mark the anniversary. But the protesters dispersed quickly.

Likewise, protest columns marched in the city Mandalay yesterday morning in commemoration of the 59th anniversary of the July 7 uprising.
