Project to tax illegal imported liquor to begin in September

According to an announcement made by the Internal Revenue Department, the Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry, illegal liquor in the local market will be made to pay the due taxes and seals imprinted stating tax paid by means of a special project from September 1 to 30. 

As per notification number 18/2020, dated May 25, 2020, the Ministry of Commerce permitted the import of various types of liquor from abroad for resale legally. 

In order for those entrepreneurs that had imported liquors not incur losses and those that are doing so illegally, they are to be taxed, and the seal AI is to be imprinted. 

The project is to be carried out through a one-stop service from September 1 to 30. 

According to information on the project, all those with illegal liquor imports in-hand are to submit reports within August 21 to 28 to the concerned township revenue departments in time. 

In order to prevent further entry of illegal liquors within the projected time period all those reports that are presented after August 28, 2020 will not be taken into consideration. Action will be taken as per prevailing laws for sale of illegal liquors within the project period. Should anyone having, storing, distributing and selling wholesale and retail of foreign liquors without any tax-paid seal, after the project period will be prosecuted as declared by the Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry.
