People’s Pioneer Party (PPP) is neither a paternalistic party that relies on centralization nor a personalistic party that relies on a single charismatic leader. Our party is a programmatic party which will be built on exact policies, framework and tasks for socio-economic development of the entire people, said Dr. Thet Thet Khaing, a party leader, at a ceremony to introduce the PPP at Melia Hotel in Yangon on November 30.

The programmatic party is the one that lays down future policies based on creditable research findings, practical reviews and the lessons learned from the current projects in the country, instead of views and assumptions of a group of people.

The major difference between the PPP and other political parties is the PPP is the PPP is not very much related to politics. The PPP will not turn a blind eye to peace. It will seek advice from the persons who are well-versed in peace as development will prevail only when there is peace.  It means that the PPP will work on peace and development simultaneously. But I would like to say socio-economic development is the advantage of our party, she added.

Dr. Thet Thet Khaing ran for a seat in 2015 election, representing the National League for Democracy (NLD). She has started playing a leading role in the PPP after resignation from the NLD, at the end of October.

The PPP will coordinate closely with all allied parties, civil society organizations and community-based organizations without any  ideological and identity biases. The PPP will be led by experts from various fields, experienced elders, entrepreneurs, economists, ethnic representatives, civil society leaders and young professional, according to the PPP’s statement.

U Myint Maung Tun, a founder of the PPP said: “The PPP has not decided yet how many constituencies it will compete in the 2020 election as the party is just one year old. Now the PPP has more than 900 members.”

Dr. U Myint and U Zaw Oo will act as economic advisors to the PPP. On October 23, the UEC allowed the PPP to register as a political party.
