Leaders of People's Party met with local people from Taungoo of Bago Region for the first time on November 27.

On the agenda were saluting the State Flag of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, keeping an eight-minute silence to honour the monks, students and laypeople who lost their lives during pro-democracy struggles, introducing members of the party's central executive committee and executive committee to local people, greetings extended by 88 student generation leaders, explanation of the establishment of People's Party and the objectives of establishing a political party by chairman Ko Ko Gyi.

The party chairman said his party members are studying the life of people as they are also members of the public, adding that the party was established with the belief that they could serve the public interest only if they really know and understand the life of the people.

"The reason why we formed a political party is to make our goodwill efforts policies and laws of the State. Some seek administrative authority by establishing a party. I say the authority because it will be tough if I use the term 'power'. Our people hate power. They abhor authoritarians. Those who are willing to work and have goodwill attitude can do so only if they have authority. Without authority, we cannot do no matter how we show our goodwill attitude. We have to seek authority by competing in election. People watch us whether we honour the pledges we made or not. In democracy, people can take action. If we fail to honour our pledges, people will not give us votes in next election. We have established to meet the desires of the people through the authority we have," said Ko Ko Gyi.

In the second session of the meeting, local people discussed current political and peace situations and land problems and asked about the party' stance and policy.

The meeting was also attended by members of some political parties and officials from some social organizations.
