The promise to publicize the terms and conditions of the contract on the controversial Myitsone Dam project should be kept. Otherwise, there should be the reason why the revelation cannot be made, People's Party joint general secretary (1) Kyaw Kyaw Htwe told The Daily Eleven.

He made the remark on the sidelines of a nationwide conference on the termination of the Myitsone project held in Yangon on April 1.

"Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is not the woman who does not keep her promise. She always keeps her promise. She said the provisions of the agreement would be publicized. If she could not do this, we want to know the reason," said Kyaw Htwe Htwe.

The National League for Democracy chairperson (currently State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi) told a crowd of local people in Myitkyina, Kachin State in earlier October 2015 that the terms and conditions of the Myisone project agreement between the government the company would be first revealed for public knowledge.

Kyaw Kyaw Htwe, however, said a series of protest were going on as the public had not yet known about the agreement provisions.

"Rather than accepting the agreement or not, People's Party wants to know the terms and conditions," he said.

The nationwide conference issued a declaration on April 1 saying that as the future of Myanmar holds the fate of the Ayeyawady River, the issue involving the whole union should not be decided by an individual person and the independent desire and stance of the people must be followed regarding the project.
