Aung Kyaw Khaing, Speaker of Ayeyawady Region Parliament, urged the regional government to reopen three roads leading to Ngwe Saung Beach, which have been blocked by local businessmen, as the new government is slow to materialize the decision to reopen them.

“The decision to remove the blockages was made in 2017 but it was not materialized till November 2018. It is important to implement it after over one year. It is like gathering frogs using basket with a hole underneath. What I want to tell is we want public trust because we have been chosen by them. It will hurt the image of parliament and government if we cannot implement it after over one-year time. The reply of Kyaw Myint, Minister for Development Affairs in concerned with the issue is not satisfactory. Actually the regional government should issue instructions to respective departments to implement in line with the time. I want to know when the regional government will materialize the decision,” said MP Aung Thu Htwe of No.2 Pathein Constituency.

The minister said the regional government is facing delay as they are negotiating with hoteliers in Ngwe Saung Beach to pay compensations for locals and they don’t have enough budgets to build the roads. Besides the state owned land are not returned in the hand of the regional government yet.

“Now it is nearly 2019 and the MPs and the regional government need to cooperate to find the answer to reopen the roads,” said the speaker.

Locals held demonstrations many times to reopened the roads leading to Ngwe Saung Beach and the regional government held many meetings to discuss the issue.
