Lower House of Parliament has approved the proposal calling for projects for the development of life of ethnic nationals living in undeveloped rural areas.

The motion, submitted by Lower House MP Ar Moe Hsi for Khaunglanphu Constituency, was approved during a parliamentary session of Lower House held in Nay Pyi Taw on December 19.

The proposal was discussed by 15 MPs including one military MP and the Ministry of Border Affairs said it should be recorded for monitoring. It was however approved through voting after MP Ar Moe Hsi requested for one.

Among 399 MPs who cast their votes, 212 votes for and 137 votes against the motion with 2 abstentions and 48 missing.

The proposal says among those countries making contributions to all-round development of ethnic people living in less developed far-flung areas, Canada, Australia, India, Malaysia and Indonesia are top donor countries. Canada has provided US$11.6 million over the past six years and pledged to provide US$3.4 billion for five more years.
