Over 400,000 more globetrotters enter Myanmar this FY compared to last year

More than 1 million foreign travellers have entered Myanmar through international airports, jetties and borders in the current 2018-2019 fiscal year, exceeding over 400,000 when compared to the same period of last year, according to the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population. 

From October 2018 to July 2019, 1,003,379 foreigners entered the country on tourist visas and business visas. The same period of the previous fiscal year saw 671,954 only. 

Foreigners entered Myanmar through Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw airports, jetties and border points. According to ministry data this FY, there were 73,652 foreign travellers in October 2018, 98,980 in November, 102,012 in December, 111814 in January 2019, 124,094 in February, 119,625 in March, 93,996 in April, 89533 in May, 87,593 in June and 102,080 in July. 

The arrival of foreigners in Myanmar by air in the six months of this year increased by 29 percent, while the arrival of foreigners by luxury vessel decreased by 13 percent. Until June this year, the number of foreign travellers entering the country reached 839,887 exceeding 187,910 compared to the same period of last year. 

In the six months this year, 5,979 foreigners arrived in the country by luxury vessel falling by 901 compared to the same period of last year. 

Myanmar allows visa on arrival for 55 countries. In three years, the country received nearly 400,000 foreign visitors arriving on such a visa earning over US$19.27 million.
