There are over 37 million eligible voters for 2020 General Election, according to the latest eligible voter list compiled by the Union Election Commission, General Administration Department and Immigration and Population Department.

“There are over 17 million male voters and over 19 million female voters. More than three million population are added to the list. Servicemen and their families are not included in the list. The UEC will get the exact figures of servicemen and their families when the election draws near. The number of eligible voters will change after the compilation of voter lists, said Myint Naing, a member of the Union Election Commission, at a ceremony to release the information about the election at the UEC office on November 27.

The UEC was unable to compile the list of eligible voters in five townships in "Wa" Region. The UEC said it would make efforts to compile the voter list there, he added.

The UEC has sent the amended bylaw to Union Parliament in order to open the military polling stations at the nearest place outside the army. We will continue using it if the parliament does not make amendment to it, he continued.

In the 2015 Election, there were 891 military polling stations. The number of eligible voters will be more accurate through cooperation between political parties and relevant MPs, he said.

There are 96 registered political parties for 2020 General Election. Of them, the UEC temporarily suspends three parties. The UEC is still scrutinizing the establishment of three parties and the registration of two parties. The deadline for the registration of political parties is December.
