Over $241m earned from exports of marine products in five months

Myanmar has earned more than US$241 million from exporting marine products with over US$134 million via maritime trade over the past five months of the current fiscal year 2023-2024, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

The export value of marine products amounted to $134.454 million in maritime trade and $107.361 million in border trade totalling $$241.815 million

From April 1 to March 31 in 2022–2023 FY, exports of marine products amounted to $765.945 million. From April to March in 20202021 FY, the export value of marine products was $785.021 million. In comparison between the two periods, the value in the 2022-2023 FY fell by $19.076 million. 

Annual exports of marine products amounted to $732.156 million in 2018-2019, and $858.960 million 2019-2020, $785.021 million2020-2021 and $481.657 million in 2021-2022 (mini budget period).

Myanmar's marine products are exported annually to 45 countries, and in the meat sector, live animals are mainly to exported to the neighboring countries via border trade.

During the fiscal year 2008-2019, Myanmar produced 1,121.35 tons of livestock, 339.36 tons of fish from farms, 1,260.69 tons of fish via common fishing methods and 3,249.70 tons of saltwater fish.

Thirty percent of Myanmar's GDP is obtained from the agricultural sector, with 60 percent of the rural people depending on the income generated from that sector, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.
