Over 1,180 Indian companies allowed import of Myanmar beans

More than 6,000 Indian companies applied for the import of 500,000 tons of Myanmar beans and pulses which results in 1,180 that were allowed to import, Secretary Min Ko Oo from Myanmar Pulses, Beans & Sesame Seeds Merchants Association  told The Daily Eleven.

"At the end of March, India announced quotas for their import companies. They are 200,000 tons of pigeon pea, 150,000 tons of green gram and 150,000 tons of mung bean. They applied for import in April and May with a total of over 6,000 companies. Scrutiny was conducted in May. In early June, they announce that over 1,180 companies are allowed to import," said Min Ko Oo.

"For mung bean, those companies have to import under a quota system. I think they also have to do this for pigeon pea and green gram," he added.

India mainly purchases mung bean and pigeon pea from Myanmar while China and some European countries buy green gram.

According to data from Bayintnaung Wholesale Center, one ton FAQ of mung bean (2019 crop) is worth US$-560-580 and one tone SQ US$700-720. One tone FAQ of mung bean (2018 crop) is worth US$555-575 and one SQ US$690-710.

One ton FAQ of green gram is priced at US$650-740 and one ton of green gram (golden yellow) US$850-1,000.

One ton FAQ of pigeon pea (2019 crop) is worth US$650-750 and one ton FAQ of pigeon pea (2017-2018 crop) US$630-670.

On June 20, mung bean was sold at K863,000 per ton (FAQ) and K1,033,000 per ton (SQ).
