Ooredoo, one of the four telecom operators in the country, made 150 libraries into digital ones in six months, according to Ooredoo Myanmar.

Under Beyond Access Myanmar project of Ooredoo Myanmar, 150 libraries in both urban and rural areas have gained access to internet with 166 laptops provided for use.

Over the past six months, the number of netizens has reached 117,472 at those libraries. Among them, nearly 9,500 are regular internet users.

"Compared to the period of five years ago, this six-month period saw the number of internet users more than double. The fact is that people are found to be more willing to have digital and technological knowledge," said Tint Naing, head of corporate communications of Ooredoo Myanmar.

Ooredoo Myanmar and Myanmar Book Aid and Preservation Foundation started their cooperation in 2014 with the aim of transforming public libraries across the country into digital public centers.

Ooredoo has so far donated 539 mobile tablets and 166 laptops and given internet access to 150 libraries.
