New Yangon Development Company (NYDC) received  77 Expression of Interest (EoI) letters submitted by 45 local and foreign companies submitted for six infrastructure projects for development of the New Yangon City Phase 1, according to the weekly blog of NYDC CEO U Thein Wai.

On February 11, 2019, the NYDC invited interested companies to begin the first step of NYDC Challenge for the infrastructure projects for development of the New Yangon City Phase 1. The deadline for the submission of the EOI is February 28.

“There are 77 Expression of Interest (EoI) letters—20 in power supply and distribution sector, seven in public transport sector, 13 in cyber connectivity infrastructure sector, 15 in municipal waste disposal sector, 14 in natural gas supply and distribution sector and eight in convention sector. The countries which submitted EoIs are: Myanmar, India, Finland, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. Some companies submitted EOIs for more than one business,” he said.

Four out of 45 companies are interested in EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractors. According to the NYDC’s Private-Public-Partnership (PPP) model, the selected companies will carry out design, invest, build and operate in cooperation with the NYDC. Companies and organizations which will serve as EPC contractors will have a chance to cooperate with the organizations which will lead these projects in the future, he added.
