Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) organized a talk on charter change and get up a petition in support of constitutional amendment in North Okkalapa Township in Yangon on March 3.
Movements to amend the 2008 Constitution are being seen across the country. The people support the joint committee to amend the Constitution. The sovereign of the Constitution must derive from the people. Only then can it be the essence of the Constitution, said Khin Maung Oo, the leader of organizing the talk and the petition.
“Nationwide movements on constitutional amendment are being organized. The parliament has already formed the joint committee for amending the Constitution. The people are staging protests in support of the charter change. These are the duties of the people. For that reason, the people must cheer and support the plan for charter change. The sovereign of the Constitution must derive from the people. It is the essence of the Constitution,” said Khin Maung Oo.
The people should organize the protests in support of charter change in every where in the country, said Khin Maung Oo.
“We have wanted to amend the Constitution just before the new government takes office. This is because the Constitution is unacceptable and inappropriate. We feel it makes us lose our rights. The Constitution must be amended. We constantly try to make constitutional amendments,” said a person who participated in the protest.
