Regarding Covid-19 in Myanmar, no one has been found to have been infected with the new Omicron variant, and there have been only those infected with delta virus, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the information released by the Public Health Department, the Department of Treatment and Medical Research Department in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Military Medical Research Department are constantly Genome Sequencing, and accordingly notified the public on June 15 and August 31 about the Alpha, Beta, Kappa and Delta variants of Covid-19 virus.
According to the information released on December 11 regarding the infection with the Omicron variant, Omicron has already been found in 63 countries. As a result Genome Sequencing has been done on those returning from abroad with Covid-19 virus.
On December 6 a total of 16 lab samples from Taungyi, Mandalay, Mawlamyine, Kengtung, Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon were tested at the Military Medical Research Department, and 16 patients had been found to have been infected with the Delta variant and no one was infected with the Omicron variant.
Of those infected with the Delta variant, four returned from Thailand, two from Laos, and two from Malaysia.
Moreover, the lab samples have been dispatched to the WHO lab in Thailand for testing. Continued monitoring is being done by the Medical Research Department of the Ministry of Health and the Military Medical Research regarding the mutation of the Covid-19 virus.
