There is no connection among ministries in repairing of lamp-posts, pavements and cables according to Yangon Mayor Maung Maung Soe, at a news brief of Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) held at the city hall on July 1.

"There is not only connection between departments but also ministries. That's why we are starting to amend the processes," said Yangon Mayor Maung Maung Soe.

Concerning lamp-posts and pavements, there were no observation in paving pavements, resulting in some being built on transverse and longitudinal sections. They are now trying to smoothen out such kinds of error.

"These lamp-posts and cables were not constructed underground but on pavements. There are many issues like these. In solving them, there are high expenses and budget requirements, especially when the pavements are not in good quality. We are now trying to control quality and more," said Maung Maung Soe.

While lamp-posts and the like that obstruct the narrowing street used to be okay, it has now become an increasingly larger problems as pedestrian pavements have been thinned out to make way for more vehicle lanes.

As a result, the location of certain lampposts on pavements has become an obstruction, forcing pedestrians to get off the pavement and walk along the vehicle lanes.

In moving and adjusting of such lampposts, some residents have objected to relocation near their homes as they felt it was unsafe. Mayor Maung Maung Soe added that there exists a plethora of problems and weaknesses, both of which they are trying to fix.
