The process of transforming dictatorship to democracy isn’t complete yet and so the National League for Democracy (NLD) must again win a landslide victory in the coming general election, said NLD’s chair Aung San Suu Kyi when holding a video conference with six locals from Kawhmu township on October 19.
Ye Thu Hein, a Karen youth said that, previously, he was thinking to vote for other Karen parties but after discussing with his friends, he decided to vote for NLD which can do most for the country.
Aung San Suu Kyi replied that Myanmar citizens must look out for one's racial interests but working for the Union is above working for the national races. Besides, the NLD party is for every national race residing in our country not only for Myanmar people. NLD doesn’t desire or work to weaken ethnic parties and moreover NLD is not competing with other parties instead competing with a structure.
“We are working to change the dictatorship system to a democracy system. In the process of transforming, we have to work for many things in this country to become a real democracy country. It is practical that NLD must win a landslide victory. Because there are 25 percent of representatives from military already taken place in the parliament seats, she continued.
NLD isn’t established as a Bamar national party but as a party of all union people. However, in Myanmar, Bamar is the majority race and it cannot be denied that the NLD is made up largely of the Bamar people.
She gave an example of the United States that is made up of many races but only two parties are working for the USA for centuries and achieved success.
She also said she desire to win over COVID-19 as well as the NLD party winning in the coming election. Besides, NLD party members are being criticized for their campaigns and so they have to pay special attention in campaigning.
Social distancing and 6 feet apart appeared last 6 months and so sometimes the rules were broken without notice and without intent. The other parties also experienced these kinds of incidents.
She will be competing from the Kawahmu township constituency in the coming election.
