The National Unity Party will compete in 41 out of 45 constituencies in Mon State, according to the party’s state committee.

There are 45 constituencies in total across 10 townships in Mon State: 10 seats for the Upper House, 12 for the Lower House(six under First-Past-the-Post/FPTP and six under the Mixed-Member Proportional/MMP system), 20 for the State  (two per township), and three ethnic affairs minister posts (Bamar, Karen, and Pa-O), explained U Tin Yi, chairman of the party’s Mon State Committee.

He added, “As of now, our party will field candidates in seven out of the 10 Upper House seats. For the Lower House and State , we will contest all constituencies. For the ethnic affairs ministers, we will run only for the Bamar and Pa-O seats at this stage. Altogether, we are preparing to compete in 41 constituencies.”

The National Unity Party will not contest in Chaungzon, Ye, and Kyaikmayaw townships for the Upper House, nor will it field a candidate for the Karen ethnic affairs minister post.

Nationwide, the National Unity Party, which aims to become a national-level party, is preparing to contest over 500 constituencies.

Meanwhile, the Union Election Commission (UEC) announced on September 9 that it had revoked registration for several parties, including the National Democratic Force (NDF), which failed to meet membership requirements; the National Politics Democratic Party; the Women’s Party (Mon); and the Union Farmer Worker Force Party, which did not meet the required number of party offices.

As a result, only nine parties remain active in Mon State: the Union Solidarity and Development Party, the National Unity Party, the People’s Pioneer Party, the National Interests Development Party, the People’s Party, the Mon Unity Party, the Shan and Ethnic Democratic Party (White Tiger Party), the Myanmar Farmer Development Party, and the Pa-O National Development Party.

According to the UEC, the 2025 General Election (Part 1) will be held on December 28 (Sunday) in Kyaikhto, Thaton, Mawlamyine, Chaungzon, and Kyaikmayaw townships in Mon State.
