Myint Maung appointed Chief Minister of Tanintharyi Region

Tanintharyi Region Minister for Natural Resource and Environmental Conservation Myint Maung has been appointed Chief Minister of Tanintharyi Region, according to a statement by the President’s Office on March 22.

According to the approval of Tanintharyi Region Parliament, Myint Maung is appointed “Chief Minister” in accordance with Section 261 (c ) and Section 264 (c) of the Constitution, Section 82 (a) of the Union Government Law and Section 56 (a) of the Region or State Government Law.

The President sent a proposal to the Speaker of the Tanintharyi Region Parliament for the appointment of Myit Maung as Chief Minister.

Myint Maung served as acting Chief Minister on March 11 after the Anti-Corruption Commission opened a case against former Chief Minister Dr. Le Le Maw on corruption charge.

Khin Maung Aye, Speaker of Tanintharyi Region Parliament said: “On March 25, the newly-appointed Chief Minister will take an oath. The chief minister will nominate three region ministers to fill three vacant posts. Three region ministers are likely to take an oath on March 28.”

Currently, Myint Maung is serving as Tanintharyi Region Minister for Natural Resource and Environmental Conservation. There are three vacant posts for the region ministers. The President allowed the resignation of the Region Minister for Planning and Finance and the Region Minister for Electricity and Energy.

Acting Chief Minister Myint Maung said: “I think the government assigns duty to me. I will perform my duties as much as I can.”
