Myanmar worker dies in gas explosion at Malaysian plastic factory

A Myanmar worker tragically died following a gas tank explosion at a plastic factory in Malaysia, according to the Myanmar Social Welfare Association (Malaysia), which supports Myanmar migrant workers in the country.

The incident occurred on February 17 at a plastic factory in the Telok Gong area of Selangor State. The deceased worker was identified as Ko Htet Lin Shine, 30, from Gon Min East Village, Pantanaw Township, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar.

Ko Htet Lin Shine sustained severe injuries from the explosion and passed away upon arrival at the hospital. His funeral was held on February 25, with his body transported from the mortuary of Klang General Hospital to a Hindu cemetery in Klang, Selangor State.

Efforts are ongoing to secure the deceased worker’s rightful benefits and entitlements, with labor officers from the Myanmar Embassy in Malaysia in discussions with the employer, the association reported.
