Myanmar State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who is in Thailand to attend the 34th ASEAN Summit, held separate talks with  Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Indonesian President Joko Widodo on 22 June, according to the statement by the Myanmar State Counsellor Office.

In a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo, the State Counsellor congratulated him on the successful holding of election and his reelection. She also thanked Indonesia for the construction of a hospital in Rakhine State as humanitarian assistance for all communities. She said both countries experience natural disasters, provide assistance each other and need to cooperate in the prevention of natural disasters.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo said that Indonesia would continue to provide humanitarian assistance in Rakhine State. He also discussed the implementation of the suggestions of the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre), for the smooth operation of repatriation process.  

The meeting between the State Counsellor and the Thai Prime Minister mainly focused on promoting relation, cooperation, trade and integration between the two countries, signing the agreement on the management, maintenance and use of Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge-2, progress in friendly resolution on legalizing illegal workers and repatriating IDPs, coordination for opening a border camp and the implementation of suggestions described in the preliminary assessment by the AHA for the success of repatriation process in Rakhine State and Thailand’s support.

The meetings were also attended by Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Thaung Tun, Union Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin, Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand U Myo Myint Than, Permanent Representative of Myanmar to ASEAN U Min Lwin and officials.
