Myanmar migrant workers in Mae Sot, Thailand, are to contact the labour attaché of the Myanmar embassy if they are willing to return to their motherland.   

Moe Gyo, Chairman of Joint Action Committee for Burmese Affairs (JACBA) based in Mae Sot, said despite a red level Covid lockdown in Tak Province including Mae Sot, workers holding a border pass to work (paragraph 64) have been allowed to return to Myanmar with an endorsement from the labour attaché since August 29.  

There are also those who returned home after paying money to the detention centers of the Thai immigration. For Myanmar citizens working in Mae Sot, if they hold official documents, can contact labour attaché U Win Thu in Mae Sot and seek an endorsement to return to their motherland. Today also, some are returning with the endorsements from the labour attaché,” Moe Gyo said.  

A total of 203 Myanmar migrant workers (114 men and 89 women) re-entered the country on August 29.

Myanmar authorities started accepting migrant workers at Mae Sot-Myawady Friendship Bridge No.2 every two days since August 1. Till August 29, 3,029 Myanmar migrant workers had re-entered the country.
