Myanmar-India Tamu border trade post earns US$ 77.3 million in over a month

Myanmar-India Tamu border trade post earned US$ 77.3 million in over a month and declined nearly half of its trade volume compared with the same period of last year according to Ministry of Commerce.

In 2021-2022 mini-budgets, Tamu border trade post earned US$ 77.3 million. The same period last year earned US$ 1.522 million. Therefore, US$ 74.9 million declined when compared the two periods, it said.

In October to August of 2020-2021, Myanmar-India trade volume was more than US$ 1260 million while Myanmar earned nearly US$ 730 million according to Ministry of Commerce. From October to August of 2020-2021, within 9 months, Myanmar earned US $ 729.971 million, India earned US $535.179 million. Among the top ten importers to Myanmar in 2020-2021 financial year, China stood first with US $ 884 million, Singapore with US$ 273 million and Thailand with US$ 262 million according to the Ministry. Up to November of 2020-2021 FY, China, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, South Korea, Vietnam, Japan and U.S listed as the top importing countries to Myanmar. 

Oversea Agro Traders Association (OATA) has opened India Help Desk in first floor of MITC in Yangon to share India’s trade information according to the Ministry. OATA is a Myanmar based news agency formed by India's bean export companies and Myanmar companies mainly exporting beans and pulses to India. Myanmar is the second largest beans export country in the world. It plays a vital role in stability in bean prices and to get a new market.
