According to the rough estimate, Myanmar had more than 270,000 people infected with HIV in 2021 accounting for 0.64% of the total population, according to the Ministry of Health.
World AIDS Day was celebrated at the Ministry of Health in Nay Pyi Taw on December 1, attended by the union minister, the deputy minister, directors general and officials of the ministry and representatives from relevant ministries, organization and community-based organizations.
Addressing the ceremony, Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win said Myanmar had vowed to eliminate AIDS as a public health problem through entire public participation in occasions like World AIDS Day celebration on December 1.
In accord with this year’s theme “Putting Ourselves to the Test: Achieving Equity to End HIV”, the minister called for cooperative efforts to ensure safe healthcare for everyone by seeking solutions if there is any inequality in achieving equality to end HIV.
