Myint Thu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received Bangladeshi Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury at the office of the ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on April 5.

During the meeting, Myint Thu proposed that the Fourth Meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) between Myanmar and Bangladesh on the Repatriation of Verified Displaced Persons would be held in Nay Pyi Taw Myanmar on April 27.

Both countries earlier agreed on the plan to hold the meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) between Myanmar and Bangladesh on the repatriation of verified displaced persons. The third meeting of the JWG was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh on October 30 in 2018.

That is why Myanmar is planning to host the fourth meeting of JWG in Nay Pyi Taw.

During the third meeting, a list of 8032 displaced persons was provided by Bangladesh. Myanmar made checks whether they really lived in Myanmar. Myanmar mentioned more than 5,000 displaced persons. Myanmar planned to reaccept 2,261 out of more than 5,000, but the repatriation process was in failure because no one re-entered.

Soe Han, Director-General of Political Department, said on February 22 that they would discuss the plan to repatriate 2,261 verified displaced persons that was unsuccessful after the third meeting.

"The matter will be agenda at the fourth meeting. According to the mutual agreement, Myanmar will reaccept 300 IDPs a day. It will be discussed in more detail in the fourth meeting", said Soe Han.
