Myanmar’s rice export is less than 500,000 tonnes compare with the same period last year, according to the chairman of Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) U Ye Min Aung at a news brief held on October 12.

The cause of decline in rice export is due to increase in domestic rice prices, he said.

Currently, China and EU market purchase most of Myanmar’s rice. He also added that 2 million tonnes of rice will be export this year.

In September, 2023, Myanmar exported over 49,260 tonnes of rice through maritime trade, while more than 10,190 tonnes of rice were exported to EU member countries, according to the data from Ministry of Commerce.

From September 1 to 30, more than 49,260 tonnes worth of US$27.052 million were exported.

Myanmar exported over 33,490 tonnes of rice to Asian countries, over 10,190 tonnes to EU member countries and over 5,570 tonnes to African countries, according to the data.

More than 11,770 tonnes were exported to Indonesia, more than 11,390 tonnes to Malaysia, more than 9,560 tonnes to the Philippines, over 406 tonnes to Singapore, over 230 tonnes to Hong Kong and over 100 tonnes to Taiwan, it is reported.
