Myanmar earned about US$480 million from 1.4 million tons of rice and broken rice export from April to November, said Vice Chair Aung Than Oo of Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF).

It earned US$260 million from over 737,148 tons of rice and broken rice export from April 1 to November 23 via border trade. It earned US$220 million from over 660,646 tons of rice and broken rice export from April 1 to November 23 via maritime trade.

Myanmar earned over US$479 million from over 1.39 tons of rice and broken rice export from April 1 to November 16, according to the MRF.

Myanmar has new markets in 2017-18 FY and exported about 3.6 million tons of rice. It broke the record within 50 year time.

Myanmar exported over 70 per cent of entire rice export via border trade routes previously.

In 2017-18 FY, rice export via maritime trade routes increased due to new markets and reached to 48 per cent of entire rice export.

The European Union (EU) is planning to withdraw Generalised scheme of preferences (GSP) granted for Myanmar temporarily for three years, according to the MRF.

The long grain rice exported from Myanmar is the same kinds of rice produced from EU member states, Italy and Spain and the EU planned to withdraw the GSP to prevent their self-interest.

Myanmar is shipping rice to African countries and EU member states and exporting rice to China through border trade routes.
