Myanmar earned US$379 million from over 1.3 million tons of rice and broken rice export within about five months of this fiscal year, according to Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF).

Most of the rice is exported to China and most of the broken rice is exported to Belgium.

Myanmar is exporting rice and broken rice through border trade routes to China and maritime trade routes to European Union and African markets.

Myanmar earned over US$50 million from about 190,000 tons of rice and broken rice export through border trade and over US$340 million from over 1.185 million tons of rice and broken rice export through maritime trade.

Myanmar exported over 948,000 tons of rice to 59 countries and earned over US$285 million. It exported over 426,000 tons of rice to 52 countries and earned over US$110 million.

It exported over 337,000 tons of rice worth over US$102 million to China in that period. It exported about 100,000 tons of broken rice worth over US$24 million to Belgium in that period.

Myanmar exported about 3.6 million tons of rice and broken rice in 2017-18 FY and it broke the record in over 50-year time.

The MRF is dealing with the issues caused by the low market price in 2019 summer. It said the farmers are facing difficulty to have enough silos, paddy drying system and vehicles to carry rice, announced the MRF on May 18.
