Myanmar dispatches around 90 Myanmar fishing workers to Thailand

Myanmar has sent around 90 Myanmar fishing workers to Thailand under a MoU system, according to the Myanmar Labour Attaché Office in Bangkok of Thailand on April 2.

The Labour Ministry of Thailand offered to recruit more than 40,000 Myanmar workers for the fishing industry in Thailand, at the meeting between Myanmar and Thailand.

Currently, illegal Myanmar workers are working in the fishing industry in Thailand. On a priority basis, Myanmar officially sends the workers who have get the official documents and the fishermen who have worked in the fishing industry.

San Maung Oo, officer of Myanmar Labour Attaché Office said: “Myanmar has started sending workers under a U-turn system. As a first batch, we sent 62 workers and 27 workers to Thailand as a second batch. We will send the third batch workers soon.”

MoU workers will get a salary of 10,000 to 12,000 Thai Baht and can enjoy the rights, social security and family remittance, according to the labour law.

To ensure the smooth operation in sending workers to Thailand, One Stop Service Centers are opened in Kawthoung in Myanmar and Ranong in Thailand.

More than 30,000 legal and illegal Myanmar workers are working in the fishing industry in Thailand, most of whom are from Taninthayi, Ayeyawady, Mon and Rakhine.
