GEORGE TOWN: Many small-and-medium-sized Malaysian entrepreneurs who are taking part in the China-Asean Expo in Nanning, China, are enjoying brisk business, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).

The MCA president visited the Malaysia pavilion at the expo on Sunday (Sept 22).

He said the entrepreneurs had told him that taking part in the expo had yielded positive results and brought them good business.

He said many of them had taken part in the expo every year, with products such as durian, white coffee, white curry noodles and birds' nest always a hit among Chinese consumers.

MCA vice-president and chairman of the Belt and Road Committee Datuk Tan Teik Cheng also led a delegation of 40 people to explore business opportunities at the expo. The delegation comprises those involved in various businesses.

Dr Wee also witnessed how Guangfa Holdings Ltd, through Malaysian company Top Fruits Sdn Bhd, had managed to import Malaysia’s frozen whole durian to China.

Helmed by Ruan Hai, a young well-known entrepreneur in Nanning, the Chinese company had rebranded the durian as "Soft Cat" and exported it to Guangxi, thus penetrating the Nanning market.

"The first container of Musang King, which reached Hong Kong on Friday (Sept 20) was sold out immediately after being given clearance at the Customs Department on Saturday (Sept 21).

"It shows that Musang King has huge potential in the Chinese market," Dr Wee said in a post on his Facebook page.
