Myanma Railways (MR) suspended its services in Yangon-Mawlamyaing-Yay-Dawei railroad due to heavy rain and damaged rail tracks, sources said.

Rail services in Yangon-Bagan railroad cannot reach its destination as a bridge on the railroad was damaged on August 10 and travellers can only go to Kyaukpadaung from Yangon.

Moreover, the rain was heavy and caused damages in Yangon-Mawlamyaing-Yay-Dawei railroad and the MR suspended rail services on the railroad from August 9.

“Some rail services are suspended as some portions of the railroads are damaged and bridges are collapsed due to heavy rain in recent days. The MR is trying to repair the damages and expected to re-open the Mawlamyaing-Yay railroad on August 15,” said an official from the MR.

The MR stopped 36 train services including express, postal and freight services within five-year time due to uneconomical exercise.

It is introduced new train schedules in Mandalay-Kawlin, Insein-Taikkyi, Moenyin-Myitkyina and Mandalay-Myitkyina with four express trains and four railway post office cars to improve income.
