MR extends suspension of train schedules for COVID-19

YANGON-In order to keep the fight against the COVID-19 virus going, Myanma Railway (MR) will be extending suspension of train schedules until May 15th.

The MR had suspended running of some passenger trains from April 10 to April 30th.

However, the 11/12 up and down Yangon-Mandalay trains, 41/42 up and down Mandalay-Myitkyina mail trains, 89/90 up and down Yangon-Mawlamyine trains and 63/64 up and down Yangon-Pyay trains are being operated regularly. 

“We increased the duration of the temporary suspension of train schedules to May 15th. We are going to re-operate running of trains depending on the COVID-19 instructions,” said Officer Zaw Lwin from MR.

Due to COVID-19 outbreak, MR suspended the running of some trains with a few passengers on board. Moreover, MR had suspended running of 31 up airbag Mandalay-Myitkyina train on April 3rd and 32 down Myitkyina Mandalay train on April 4th.

Myanma Railway under the Ministry of Transport and Communications launched running of Mandalay-Myitkyina-Mandalay train with new airbag coaches imported from Dauonsys Co;Ltd from South Korea since the beginning of March 21st.

Only a few people are riding the circular trains in Yangon Region during COVID-10 outbreak.

However, the circular trains in Yangon had operated two times per day since April 10th.

Due to reopening of government’s offices and factories on April 20th, there had been an increased number of train users.

So, MR extended operating of circular trains during office hours.

A total of 168 circular trains are being operated usually in Yangon Region.

Currently, MR has suspended the running of 69 circular trains due to COVID-19 outbreak but 99 circular trains are still being operated.

MY will be announcing its train schedules of the remaining circular trains in the respective railway stations.
