More locals abandon their homes in Kyauktaw

More locals from villages in upper Yochaung area in Kyauktaw Township are abandoned their homes as they have been restricted by the army to carry food supplies, sources said.

More families arrived in IDP camp in Kansaut Village recently as they are struggled to find food supplies in their villages, said Thinkha Kyaw, administrator of Kansaut Village.

A total of 514 IDPs from 140 family households were staying at the IDP camp previously and now there are 560 IDPs from 150 family households from Kayumaw, Kyunthayar, Chinmawontaung and Taungpauk villages taking shelter at the camp now.

Although the fighting is not occurred at the present, locals from 15 villages in upper Yochaung area are abandoning their homes as they have been restricted by the army to carry food supplies.

Locals wanted the authorities to allow relief teams to visit their villages and to carry food supplies.

The government will negotiate with the army to let the locals to carry food supplies, said Dr Win Myat Aye, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in a meeting with the media at Rakhine State government office on January 11.

The IDPs said they will return home if the army allows them to carry food supplies.
