Ministry of Electricity and Energy had produced 904 megawatts of electricity and built 19,611 miles of transmission lines and new sub-power stations from April 2016 to September 2019 in this government era, said Win Khaing, Union Minister for Electricity and Energy in an opening ceremony of solar power plant with solar PV and energy storage system (ESS) and a diesel Hybrid system developed by POSCO Daewoo Corporation to provide 24-hour electricity in Manaung on December 19.

Residents from 72 towns and 6,038 villages have gained access to the national grid in this period. Nationwide electrification was 34 per cent in 2016 and it is reached to 50.9 per cent now.

Electricity requirement in Myanmar is about 19 per cent (between 300 and 500 megawatts) annually and the ministry can provide enough electricity by setting short and long term plans in advance, said the union minister.
