Mongla backs State Counsellor’s plan to defend ICJ lawsuit

Mongla Group, Special Region-4 in Shan State (East) issued a statement on November 30, showing the full support for Myanmar State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who will lead the team to defend the case filed by Gambia at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

In its statement, Mongla requests international organizations to listen to the voice of Myanmar. The fact that only peace and development path would bring about national development and peace and prosperity of the public, bears witness to the success of Special Region-4 during 30 years of peace after ceasefire.

The United Wa State Party (UWSP)/ United Wa State Army (UWSA) also issued a statement on November 30, to show the support for the government’s stance against the case filed by Gambia at the ICJ. The government’s efforts to defend the case is the safeguarding of dignity of the Union. The UWSP/UWSA respects and takes pride in the act which protect and safeguard the dignity of the Union and remonstrates against unfair ways used for solving Myanmar’s conflict.

Gambia filed a case against Myanmar at the ICJ for alleged genocide, on behalf of OCI while Bangladesh opened a case against Myanmar, at the International Criminal Court (ICC). Human rights groups also filed a case against Myanmar officials in Argentina.

On November 28, the Ta,ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and the Arakan Army (AA) issued a statement, fully supporting a plan to take action against Tatmadaw.
