MNHRC to conduct research on the causes of rape cases

Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) plans to compile research papers on the causes of rape cases and submitted them to the President and Union Parliament, said MNHRC chair Win Mya on July 26.

The MNHRC submitted its annual report for 2018, at the session of Union Parliament on July 26.

MNHRC chair Win Mya said: “With regard to the topic on rape cases and sexual harassments discussed by MP Htay Oo from Yangon Region Constituency-2, the commission is dealing with the cases through the sending of complaints to relevant ministries and investigation, if necessary.”

If necessary, the commission will carry out the appointment of consultants and the formation of work committee. The commission effectively tackles child rape cases in accordance with the provisions of para-37 (a), (b), (c) and (i) of the annual report 2018.

The commission will make efforts to put thesummary of common cases and human right violations suggested by MP Shwe Shwe Sein Lat from Bago Region Constituency-3, in the next reports, he added.
