With the aim of enabling the governmental organizations to safely store their data at a single place and providing better services to the people, the ministry plans to build a national-level e-government Integrated Data Center (e-GIDC), said Union Minister for Transport and Communication Thant Zin Maung, at a ceremony to open e-Government Conference and ICT Exhibition 2018 held at the MICC-2 in Nay Pyi Taw on November 27.

In late February, the ministry got the nod from the Union government to set up the e-GIDC by taking out a loan from the Republic of Korea. The ministry will implement the project after the loan agreement between the two countries has been signed.

“Our e-government works did not achieve the goal as we expected.  The e-government process is found to be slow,” he added.

The weak points of e-government process are: having the national view, the establishment of supervisory organization, drafting and laying down the law and policy pertaining to the ICT, collection and cooperation, proficiency skills of workers and capacity building and the implementation of priority projects under the leadership of the government.

“The government is the major driver for a shift to the e-government system but the process will achieve success only through cooperation with the private sector and citizens. All people need to have the same objective and walk on the same route in unity,” he added.

For the effective implementation of e-government process, Myanmar formed the e-government leading committee and the implementation work committee and the sub-committee in late January in order to successfully implement the policies and processes enshrined in Myanmar e-Government Master Plan.
