YANGON----The Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services Office today announced that the military will be carrying out the tasks of handing over leadership to the winning party by holding a new election, ending the stage of emergency in the country.
The announcement also reported that the Union Election Commission had failed to solve grave errors concerning voting results during Nov 8 General Election 2020.
Moreover, the Military urged the President Win Myint to hold a national Security Council meeting and Union Parliament meeting aiming to solve the alleged irregularities in the voter list. However, the government rejected the military’s demands.
The announcement said that the military will reform the Union Election Commission to check the voter list in accordance with the law. Afterwards, the military effectively will carry out preventive measures against the COVID-19 and will be curing the economic impacts due to COVID-19 pandemic.
With the aim to gain long lasting peace, the military also claims it will implement the agreements of the Nationwide Ceasefire.
Upon completion of the tasks in accordance with the emergency enacted laws, the military will hold a free and fair Multi-Party Democracy General Election in accordance with the 2008 Constitution Law, handing over the reigns to whichever party that wins.
