Military seized narcotics worth over K217 bn from armed group areas till mid-August

Over K217 billion worth of narcotic drugs were seized from the locations of armed organizations ,deemed insurgents by the military , from January to mid-August this year, said Major General Soe Naing Oo, chairman of Tatmadaw (Military) True News Information Team. 

He disclosed the information during a press conference held by the military at the Defence Services Museum in Nay Pyi Taw on August 23. 

"The narcotic drugs we seized from January 1 to August 15 in 2019 are worth over K217 billion. From 2017 to 2019, narcotics worth over K81 billion were seized in the area of North-East Command. It was a large haul of seizures. The places where we seized those drugs are the locatons of the armed groups we regard them as insurgents. The places are the areas where they were active. We will continue our work as drug elimination is the national duty of the Tatmadaw," said Maj-Gen Soe Naing Oo. 

The Tatmadaw seized 1,450 kilos of heroin, 1,760 kilos of raw opium and 30 million stimulant tablets worth over K131 billion from January 1 to December 31 in 2018. The drugs seized in the area of North-East Command were worth K17 billion, those in the area of Eastern Command K48 billion, those in the area of Triangle Region Command K15 billion and those in the area of Western Command K27 billion, said the team chairman.
