Military and SSPP clashes in Thibaw forces 500 locals to abandon their place

More than 500 locals fled their homes when clashes between military forces and Shan State Progressive party SSPP/SSA occurred at a hill at the west of Narlot village in Thibaw, northern Shan State on November 13.

“I heard that exchange of fire broke out between Namtlan and Thibaw on 11;00 am. But didn’t know the detail of that case as I was on a trip,” said Major Sai Phone Han spokesman from SSPP.

On November 13th, SSPP made a statement that when SSPP travelling from west to east of highway road and during a rest, military column entered from Narmakhaw village and clashes occurred. L.I.D (502) based in Kyaukme and SSPP exchanged fire from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Although SSPP made a statement, there is no statement made from military.

Due to that clash, residents from Narlot and Manarr villages fled their homes and sheltered at the Narohn village monastery.

Moreover, there was an exchange of fire between Shan State Restoration Council (RCSS/SSA) and Ta’aung national Liberation Army (TNLA) on November 13 morning at Chon Haung village near Hinwo village, Mongnot sub-township in northern Shan State.

Locals from lashio, namtu, Thibaw, Kyaukme in northern Shan State have to flee from their homes frequently as there were clashes between military and ethnic armed forces or among ethnic armed forces.

In addition, land mine sin these region also killed some locals and some were injured recently.
