Michael Kyaw Myint, for whom authorities issued an arrest warrant for his leading role in disturbing a worship place of Muslims in South Dagon Township, Yangon, has been arrested in Wandwin Township, Mandalay Region, the township police force has confirmed.

The runaway was arrested as he visited  the house of his mother-in-law in Kongan Village, Wandwin Township, Meiktila District, on June 10 afternoon.

"Michael Kyaw Myint was arrested at about 1.30 pm on June 10. Currently, he was taken to the office of Meiktila District Police Force. The police station concerned will come and fetch him," said Police Major Kyaw Myint Shwe, head of Wandwin Township Police Force.

When he was arrested, he was together with her wife. But police did not arrest her because of her non-involvement.    

The administrator of South Dagon Township as a plaintiff filed a complaint to the township court against Michael Kyaw Myint, who led a group of people in a move to disturb a worship place for Muslims in the township under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code of Myanmar.

His associate Thiha Myo Naing, who also faced arrest warrant, turned himself in to police recently.

Michael Kyaw Myint has already served prison sentences for accusing the Yangon Region chief minister and his personal assistant of alleged corruption in a land issue, for staging protests and violating the peace assembly and procession law.
