Memory Film Festival 2018 will be held in the Waziyar cinema and Maha Bandoola Park in Yangon this year. It will showcase about 75 both local and foreign films.

This year’s Memory Film Festival 2018 marks the 6th anniversary of the event.

The main theme for this year will be the Freedom of Press & Democracy on Silver Screen and majority of the films to be shown falls under that category.

“The Memory film festival, which has been held every year, will be held in November this year as usual. We will showcase the best of international and local films as it is also the world heritage film festival period.  The venues of the film festival are Waziyar cinema, which is one of the oldest theatres in Yangon, and Maha Bandoola Park where an open-air cinema will be set up. Together with the film festival, there will be discussion on films, Myanmar Script Fund programme, and Memory Journalism and Culture programmes. These shows are free of charge and all are invited to enjoy the show,” said an official from the Memory Film Festival.

It is to be held from November 9 to 18. The list of the films showing in the festival will be announced later as well as the screening timetables. The Memory Film Festival was first held in Yangon in 2013. It aims to bring to the Myanmar public the kinds of films that were difficult to access for several decades in this country. By looking at these films, viewers will experience rich histories of the world and local films, and see movies as both popular and an inspiring art form that reaches across eras and nations. Movies are journeys through time, space, and history. By looking at these classic movies, we can have a glimpse of different culture, traditions and societies of the world countries.
