Meikhtila hiking and mountaineering association reached 11000 feet of Phonkanrazi

Five males and one female from Meikhtila hiking and mountaineering association reached the 11000  feet of Phonkanrazi in Puta O in Kachin State while another 14 climbers reached more than 9700 feet of that mountain according to Meikhtila hiking and mountaineering association.

"On March 8, we tried the climb to top of Phonkanrazi mountain. The snow at the base camp was 4 feet high on that day. We stayed there overnight there and in the morning, us 6 climbers began scalin the mountain. As there were snow storm at the top of the mountain, we could reach only 11000  feet of Phonkanrazi. The eldest in our team is 72 years old and he climbed until 9700 feet. All are in good health. We reached Puta O on March 11. We will rest here for a day and next day, we will be back," said Tun Lwin, information in charge of Meikhtila hiking and mountaineering association.

"The time we climbed on the mountain coincided with bad weather. As the Phonkanrazi mountain is 11920 feet, we need to climb 900 feet more. As the weather is terribly bad on the top of the mountain, it is dangerous to continue to go at the top. We had to stop at 11000 feet," said Naing Min Shein from Meikhtila hiking and mountaineering association.

Meikhtila hiking and mountaineering association comprising of 6 women and 14 men climbed Phonkanrazi mountain since March 4.
