The meeting between government and northern allies was possible to be held this month but has been postponed for a couple of days, said San Aung, a member of Peace-talk Creation Group.

“The meeting was postponed but it may still be held during this month. It was postponed as the government wants to meet all four groups in northern alliance at the same time. So we have to wait for some groups to be involved in the political discussion,” he said.

Although the meeting was arranged to be after Union Day, they are still negotiating about the scheduling, he said.

“We are negotiating with National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) and the NPRC will notify it to the government. If the government agrees to an exact date, it will be confirmed,” said San Aung.

The northern allies are Kachin Independence Army (KIA), Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and Arakan Army (AA).

“The date isn’t confirmed yet and the government hasn’t made a response about it,” said Maj. Mai Eike Kyaw, the information officer from the TNLA.

The government will notify the exact date to hold the meeting and the northern allies will discuss about it for the proposed date.

The AA is still fighting with the army in Rakhine and Chin states.
